Transportation Fuels & Carbon Markets: How Might a Carbon-based Trading System Develop?

Awarded to Christopher Knittel, Chevron Technology Ventures/UCD, $78,956

This project will develop several options for market-based regulations to improve the greenhouse gas emissions characteristics of transportation fuels.  The goal is to better understand how carbon-based fuel policies may be implemented in the transportation sector.  Key questions include use of emission caps versus intensity targets, and single sector vector versus multi-sector approaches.  We will investigate different program designs and analyze the likely costs and feasibility of different designs with special focus on biofuels.
