E85 Station Entry: Implications for Alternative Fuel Policy & Firm Stategy

Awarded to Christopher Knittel, Chevron Technology Ventures/UCD, $126,571

This project will estimate the effect of E85 entry on the pricing behavior of both incumbent traditional fuel and E85 stations.  The goal is to better understand which stations compete against each and how the intensity of competition is affected by distance, both in geographical and driving terms.  The results of this project have implications for both firm strategy, at the refiner and gas station levels, and policy.
