Junior Faculty Research Program
The goal of the IGA Junior Faculty Research Program is to assist junior faculty in cultivating a base of external funding that will support their work over the long term. In addition to seed support, recipients of Junior Faculty Research Program awards have access to IGA’s grant-related services such as identifying potential funding sources, proposal preparation and submission assistance, and grant management services for funded projects.
Although IGA’s funding for the program is limited, the return on these seed investments has been excellent. From its inception in 1998-99 through the 2006-2007 academic year, the program made 75 awards (to 44 individuals) totaling $279,454. Eighty percent of the awardees fulfilled their obligation to apply for external support. Award recipients secured 47 grants totaling nearly $2.5 million in extramural funding. Each dollar invested in the program has yielded nearly nine more to support faculty research while helping junior faculty build skills, knowledge, and experience in obtaining funding that will benefit them throughout their careers.
